How Matter Antimatter Energy Works Infographic
Many of us enjoy the science involved in Star Trek and with the release of Star Trek: Beyond this week I thought it would be fun to talk about one of the things that the movies and shows get right. The Starship Enterprise is powered by a Matter-Antimatter Warp Drive and the science behind it could actually become a reality and sooner than you think. Scientists have already found a way to create antimatter and are starting to experiment with it in lab settings. So far they have found that the idea that this could be an energy source is holding up. There are a few problems that have to be overcome before we can power starships and explore the universe, but progress is being made. The infographic below explains how matter and antimatter could be used to generate energy and shows a few of the difficulties that must be overcome before it can be used.
